EQ5 vs CG5

Guys,

Quick question. Would you consider replacing an SW EQ5 with a Celestron CG5 mount an upgrade ?

I assume the CG5 can take higher load capacity ? I would be looking at adding a small ST80 or ST102 as a guide scope to the 200P and whilst the EQ5 would probably struggle, would the GT5 cope (seen images of C11's on the CG so I guess it would be OK ?)

FLO have the CG5-GT on special offer at £525 and the HEQ5 Syntrek at £597. No contest, go for the Syntrek. The HEQ5 Syntrek takes a greater load than the CG5 and you can reuse your Synscan handset.

I think you'll struggle with a 200P and an ST80 on it, I struggled with those on my HEQ5 and didn't try on my CG5-GT.

I tried my 200 on a cg5, that was it though, I wouldn't have put a single thing else on it, that was right at the limit that I was happy with, and that was only visual.....maybe i'm over cautious though...

Agreed, If I was going for brand new I would opt for the HEQ5... this was a chance to pick up a CG5 second hand...

HEQ5 would be an upgrade a CG5 would be of no benefit over a EQ5 on a pier.

Thanks guys.... I've decided to put the funds that I was going to invest in the second hand CG5 towards the purchase of a new HEQ5 Syntrek.

I too can confirm, 200P on a cg5 for visual, fine. With a guidescope for pics? Forget it, I tried! Ended up getting an NEQ6 Pro. VERY happy, big difference.
