Steel pier adapter

I've been dwelling on the next steps for the OLLR Observatory at Castle Yeti.

Obviously one would wish to have the very best of kit at ones disposal, however, these being austere times, I have opted for the Fred Dibnah approach to my pier.

Instead of a shiney CNC machined Aluminium billet pier adapter, I shall be having a go using a steel pipe flange that I have just lifted from the welders shack, he has dozens of the things, so I'm sure that he'll not miss one.

Should it prove to be adequate, I'll probably end up making a further one or two, for visitors etc.

If you are referring to 8" drill collars, a nice 6 foot pony would make a damned fine and sturdy pier. A tad heavy on the baggage though...

With little work, the 'liberated' 2" pipe flange appears to be a most suitable pier adapter:
