I did think green hot air baloon highlighted by the burners but why would they be flying at night?

It's the moon's green cheese photons bouncing off your lens coatings. If you try more moon shots, see how the cheese photons get closer to the image of the moon as you get the moon closer to the centre of the shot. Is that a carrier bag on a stick?

What camera were using? I'm guessing it would be either some sort of lens flare or an internal reflection of some sort.

spot on Ludd..... its a relection of the moon off the lens coatings
