Show off your Saturn attempts

Recommended Posts

They are all good. :)

Remembering the days of ZX Spectrums and wowing over the graphics in Jet Pac.. I even think I drew a Saturn for a game once in Melbourne Draw.

Any photo someone can now take with their telescope on a computer at home is special.

Hi everyone, here's tonights attempt with my new 5x Revelation barlow, please keep in mind that my scope is tiny 114mm apeture.

as dark as it is it looks like there was quite a bit a detail to be had.

your capture setting probably not ideal and processing brightness in may blur it

My second attempt from yesterday. Mak 127, 2x barlow, Bresser PC-Okular (Thrustmaster webcam), looks much better than first one :)

Edit 06/05/11

That's the same image but after alternative processing.

Nicely done.:)

Thanks Rik, that's just probably beginner luck ;).

BTW, thanks for mentioning about possibility making movies with Canon. I gived a try this technique yesterday and it looks like Canon chip is more sensitive than my web camera chip + Canon is taking pictures in bigger resolution with speed up to 20f/sec, at least on my laptop. Can't wait to try my Canon on the Moon close ups.

My latest two attempts.

First was a very quick process before work on the 10th but as someone pointed out the gain was only set to 3 for the capture DOH!

The second had a gain of 32 and was barlowedx2 and is my best attempt to date, still not really getting cassini but its within my grasp ;)

From a blurry video from an ETX90 with SPC900nc (no barlow as i dont have one yet), through registax 5 (no settings changed as i dont know how to use it) i ended up with a blurry single image. Sharpened in GIMP and got this

Heres a few I've done over the past couple of months.

All taken with the 127 MAK on the Alt/Az mount and a x2 barlowed SPC webcam, captured with Sharpcap and processed with Registax 5 or 6. Usually a 5-6 minute capture and about the best 1000 frames kept for processing. You can see how bad my seeing/processing has been by the lack of sharpness and detail in the images. Images have all been RGB aligned and a touch of unsharpen mask followed by motion blur deconvolution.

Heres my best efforts so far, 127 mak, spc 880, 2x barlow, aprox 2000 frames stacked in registax then tweaked in photoshop. Not bad but lots of room for improvment.

Regards

Ben ;)

Single raw ATIK16ic frame from SGL6 through cloud (must had been as the other frames were over staturated). Pentax 105SDP (675mm focal length). I think it was about 5 or 15 seconds. No barlow, no eyepiece afocal.

You might need to squint ;)
