Zeiss 8" - f12.5 Refractor on eBay

For those who like long focal length refractors I came across this one on eBay. Now if I only had a spare £5,000.00 laying around.

I think you might need something a bit bigger than an EQ6 mount though

At 2500mm focal length, my 3.5 EP would give x714 - think I might need a geostationary orbiting platform for stability!

I think it is - I thought it was mentioned in one of the e.bay ads (the scope has been on more than once).

It's just that I can't believe that Zeiss would ship an instrument with a whacking great scratch on the most important lens!

i have had this ota in my watched items for about 4 weeks now, and the seller was honest about the imperfection in the lens, what would this cost new i wonder, a pretty penny! this is my dream scope but it would need another 5k to mount it correctly in an obs, and my garden would be near useless to have this set up, so i would have to move as well

Well, I don't think Zeiss did ship an 'instrument', they sold off an old "reference lens" that had be knocking around a factory and that has been put into an cell and tube by someone else.

The "scratch" could easily be blacked out with a thin strip of black insulation tape or a marker pen with no detectable effect on the performance. Or you could call in the car windscreen specialists with their magic scratch filler! .

I saw this scope first advertised by Stay Focused before the company suspended trading. I think if you were spending that kind of money you would want to take a look through first as it has appeared several times in the past but it looks like there have never been any takers - maybe its getting the damn thing home?
