  1. For the price it’s an eyepiece that will cover a lot of bases for you as well as a range of magnification. I don’t think you’ll regret it. You would have to spend considerably more to best it. Good luck.
  2. Postie dropped off an 8x50 RACI courtesy of @mikeDnight. I sprayed the holder matt black. This will be used on my Starfield 102.
  3. DHL and the postie delivered today an EQ5 Synscan upgrade kit, 5 colored filters, a roof prism binocular mount and one of those magnetic handle for my 12” dobsonian. Synscan upgrade all fitted, greased and working.
  4. That’s what I tried to do and put wanted adds both on ABS and SGL ages ago with zero replies. I have since abandoned the idea due to all the difficulties you outlined. I will now just be content buying them for my Starfield 102.
  5. Another Starfield 102 to add. I am waiting on a delivery today of the go to upgrade kit from FLO. I can’t get on with the Enhanced motor drive kit. I’m also considering one of the handsome wooden tripods.
  6. How dare you Stu! I’m mentally scarred for life now 😂
  7. The GPC’s that are for the Maxbright II Binoviewer aren’t suitable for a Newtonian. I was thinking about one for my 12” dobsonian but the Baader GPC specifically designed for Newtonians has been discontinued and they are in the process of designing a new one. I am waiting for this to be released.
  8. Yes, it’s a bit more expensive but optically superior.
  9. Charles Frank! I can fondly remember gazing longingly in his shop window in Parnie street Glasgow. Your post brought back so many memories for me.
  10. No the 7.2-21.6x is the new version of the 7-21x the 9-27x is a totally separate eyepiece. HTH.
  11. Still waiting for a good cloudless day to try out my new Starfield wedge. I don’t want to set up when the sky is only offering small patches of blue sky, as I want the time to learn how to use the wedge properly. I’m totally new to solar observing so I will need the time to get used to the various filters etc.
  12. Some of the older Tasco binoculars were made by Vixen and were not that cheap. If that’s not the case then what is the answer to the strange designation?
  13. Theoretically the Dawes limit for your scope is 0.77 arc seconds. This is however influenced by many variables like mirror quality, collimation and atmospheric seeing.
  14. I have never seen anything like this designation on binoculars. It looks like a counterfeit binocular IMO.
  15. There’s an imaging section on the forum with separate threads for deep sky, planets, lunar and solar.
  16. I used to follow Eds work before he started doing his YouTube videos. I really enjoy his videos and he’s definitely a great character.
  17. Welcome to the forum officially Claire. I also look forward to seeing your images especially what you have achieved with your EQ5.
  18. Nobody has mentioned that he needs to learn about collimating his dobsonian. You will need a collimation cap at the minimum or even better a cheshire eyepiece. There's loads of good guides on YouTube and even better ones on this forum. Just search for "collimation" and/or "collimation guide" and you will find everything you need. Good luck with your new telescope. Edit:- I have already advised the above on your other Advice post. Why post it twice?
  19. Hi and welcome to SGL👋.
  20. The very first thing you need to learn is how to check the collimation of the mirrors and how to readjust them if necessary. There’s a lot of videos on YouTube showing how to do this. It sounds scary at first but it’s a skill you only need to learn once. HTH.
  21. Good point however the majority of dobsonians that are sold ie:- Skywatcher, Stella Lyra, Orion, Zhumell, Apertura etc are all rolled steel tubes. Orion Optics are aluminium.
  22. I used two of these for my 8” and the 12”. Works great and balances it even with the Starsense unit, RACI, triple mount and Morpheus.👇 Ferrite Pot Magnet for Arts,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003MWG7BO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
  23. Just buy a couple of disc metal covered magnets from Amazon. They are only £6.?? each.
