    Newbie!

Hi 👋 Welcome to the lounge
  2. My next new Morpheus delivered today along with a dielectric diagonal and a Morpheus/Hyperion carrying case, as i intend to acquire the full range.
  3. I’m another one in the 8” Dobsonian camp. You will learn the night sky much quicker by star hopping around the constellations and asterisms. As has been already said the go to mount definitely isn’t a power and view arrangement. It takes a bit of work to get up and running. When I got my Dobsonian I was really impressed with the views it was giving and before too long I could duck and dive around the night sky. I wish you luck in whichever direction you go.
  4. A new RACI to partner the telrad on my Maksutov and a 14mm Morpheus with a 12.5mm coming later this week
  5. Both of my Synscan hand controllers, one of which is only weeks old suffer from this to a degree. I found that when it happened ,it simply needed pressing again with a bit more force. The controller that is 7 months old hardly ever does it anymore. This leads me to the conclusion that it’s simply a mechanical issue and not an electrical or electronic one. I simply worked around it, but in the end it depends on how bad the issue is on yours.
  6. I just check that the star is visible to me before I select it. If it’s not then look at another. No need to start over.
  7. My 127 came with the 45mm visual back. Just unscrew the rear adapter exposing the male threads, and measure across the outside diameter. If it’s 45mm then you need the adapter below
  8. The thread on the EQ5 and AZ4 are both M10. I am unsure about the EQ3-2. My AZ4 tripod has an azimuth alignment
  9. Good choice Paul 👍 When I use mine I don’t extend the tripod legs and use a chair or stool for comfort and ease of use. It’s also far more steady this way. It’s completely your choice of course. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I have with mine.
  10. My 127 Maksutov on AZ synscan go to mount for speed of set up and easy alignment. For wider fields it’s my 120/1000 Evostar on an EQ5 pro go to mount or my 8” Stella Lyra Dobsonian. For nights when the clouds are dubious I whip out my Pentax 20x60 binoculars on a pistol grip tripod.🪐 🔭👀
  11. Hi, I have two pairs of binoculars for astronomy. The first one being a pair of Opticron 15x70 and the second ones being Pentax 20x60. I have them on a pistol grip tripod and mount. They are both good for DSO’s but the Pentax stand head and shoulders above the Opticron for clarity and contrast. Good luck with your search
  12. I have an Evostar 120/1000 on an EQ5 pro go to mount and used in conjunction with the Baader semi apo filter the CA is reduced considerably. The planets are easily within reach at this focal length and even more so if a 2 or 3X Barlow is used in the imaging train.
  13. Hi Chris 👋, welcome back to the lounge 🔭👀
  14. I can remember when you bought it, and I have kept myself updated with your findings and thoughts on this eyepiece. This along with needing to replace my Starguider 25mm were my primary reasons for buying this.
  15. Luckily I only have to wear reading glasses and not while observing . The 18.4mm is more than enough to be very comfortable for my aging eyes. I also have four 82 degree degree eyepieces and I actually find my preference to be for the 65-75 degree eyepieces.
  16. Thanks for the heads up 👍PS: I’ve just ordered the thread checker you highlighted.
  17. A new addition to my growing Explore Scientific collection. This time it’s a 24mm 68 degree
  18. Can anyone please confirm the size of the latitude and azimuth bolts on a EQ5 pro? I have the M8 latitude and M6 azimuth in my shopping cart and just wanted to confirm before I pulled the trigger. Thanks
  19. I believe it says “eventually” in small letters
  20. I have just bought a new EQ5 pro go to mount and I have stripped it down and re greased it, also replaced the bearings. I want to replace the latitude bolts but I am unsure of the thread size. Are they M8 ? Thanks
  21. If I were you I would change the existing finder with a RACI using the same shoe and rather than a telrad use a Rigel Quickfinder mounted with double sided tape. I have a telrad and RACI on my Maksutov and on my Dobsonian I have a RACI and a Quickfinder. The weight of the telrad and heavy eyepieces threw the balance of but the Quickfinder was fine. I tested the position of the QF with a few magnets and double sided tape as this let me try various positions until I decided on one and made it permanent.. Good luck 👍
  22. It could be the primary mirror collimation springs are too weak for the mirror. I had the same problem with a 8” Dobsonian and once i upgraded the springs all was well. Good luck 👍
  23. The Edge HD has mirror lock screws to avoid the mirror moving around. Whether the OP is using these is another matter.
  24. How did you find the UWA ( redline) SVbony eyepieces? I have the 20mm but I’ve been looking at the 6 & 9mm
