  1. @wimvb I’m truly blown away by the image you’ve produced, Thank you. That was just 50 subs @ 20 seconds. What confuses me is the amount of red colour. I presumed because I’m using a non modded camera then I wouldn’t be able to capture any redness in the nebula. I don't think I’m a arty kinda person but I’m willing and keen to learn new skills. I will watch the videos you’ve recommended. I think I may have another attempt at M42, though this time piggybacking the camera and capturing the whole nebula. Ben
  2. I was watching this earlier on YouTube, the video was made by another SGL member. PixInsight Auto Script - Auto processing. I like the idea of this, especially for a beginner like me. Ben
  3. OMG, wow, I can’t believe this is the same picture. Thank you Wim! Hopefully the light box @don4l mentions will help me with flats. Ben
  4. I carried out a quick experiment last night in the small hours when the moon was at its highest point. I’ve got light blue eyes and I’ve never been hindered by the Moon’s brightness before. However, last night I found the moon to be extremely bright and remembered I had a cheep moon filter. I took two pictures using my iPhone, with and without a filter. To my eyes, the 4 & 5pm region of the moon looked brighter using a filter. Ben
  5. Hi Arthur I’ve not actually used the Nexstar HC before and I’ve just noticed the Starsence HC has a different layout. However, i plugged the Nexstar into my mount and found this information below. I’m not sure if it’s what your after? ATB Ben
  6. I've created another stacked image using DSS if anyone would like to be kind enough to pull any detail out. Also I've just signed up to the Pixinsight 45 day free trial. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kvmyfkhlr9rh6v2/M42.tif?dl=0 M42 50 lights 25 darks 25 bias Still no flats, though I'm currently working on this... Kind Regards Ben
  7. Hi everyone, will this work for taking flats? I’ve checked the dimensions and the light box linked below will be plenty big enough to fit over a 8” SCT. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HEQAFQQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_D4o8DbQ7GEVZS I also practiced centring my target last night and ended up taking 50 subs.
  8. I use a dummy battery for my Canon, this then plugs into the mains supply. The link below will work with the 600D, though powered by usb. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C21NT92/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_eSo8Db56N1905
  9. Thank you @wimvb for processing my data. It’s given me hope and encouragement to improve next time around. For the flat frames, I’m going to buy a light frame from Amazon. The data I collected was 102 lights but because of drift I think DSS only stacked 80 x 90 sec @ 200mm. I could try for 200 lights next time and maybe increase the focal to 250mm. Also adding flats, bias and darks frames. I honestly can’t wait to try again!!! Ben
  10. Wow, looks better then I had imagined. Thank you Wim. Yes I do need to work on centring the object and flats next time, something I haven’t done as yet. Two questions. 1) What dose DBE stand for? 2) What’s a dust bunny and could you highlight it please. Thank you once again Ben
  11. Here's the file https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpua2fvrfk8jw5e/Autosave001.tif?dl=0 @wimvb @alacant Kind Regards Ben
  12. I’m having trouble on deciding between these two and wish for some feedback. I currently own, 40, 12 & 9mm eyepieces. The 25mm has a similar fov to the 40mm, though the 18mm fits the target perfectly. I’m kinda swaying for the 18mm, though interested to hear from others. 18mm 25mm 40mm
  13. The file size is 175 MB and the max is 1024 MB. I will send tomorrow using Dropbox. Ben
  14. My bad, I manged to upload the tif but its still saying unavailable. I will seek help tomorrow. Ben
  15. Am I transferring across the file wrong? I tried sending the file like I would with a picture on here. Ben
  16. Thank you Wim. The stacked image is a bit rough and ready around the left hand side. I will try to add the file below. If that fails, I have a friend who's a computer programmer and he will assist me in transferring the data across. Autosave.tif *It's saying the upload failed but above is the file. Do I need to change the file format? Ben
  17. Having the observatory is definitely a game changer. Setup and ready inside a minute, makes all the difference on cloudy nights. iPhone 7 8” Edge HD 40mm & 9mm Eyepieces Celestron NexYZ 3 Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter
  18. Hi everyone I was just wondering if someone would be very kind enough to have a go at processing the data I recently collected on Andromeda. I would be very interested to see what I've actually captured and to improve. I have zero processing experience and would be very grateful. What I've done so far is... 102 lights at 90 seconds 30 darks frames 30 bias frames I did managed to stack them all together using DSS. I basically pressed (Register Checked Pictures) and after about 10 minutes one stacked picture appeared (Autosave). I'm not sure how to transfer the data across to someone, so if you could please explain that too. Also would you prefer the data, non stacked or stacked. Thank you Ben
  19. Hi Adam, this was my Andromeda attempt. I piggybacked my cannon 1300d and took one unguided 90 second exposure at 800 iso and @ 200mm. I do like you’re Orion nebula image, well done. Ben
  20. Thank you James. So something like these two below? https://www.firstlightoptics.com/uv-ir-filters/zwo-1-25inch-iruv-cut-filter.html or https://www.firstlightoptics.com/uv-ir-filters/baader-uvir-cut-filter.html Ben
  21. Hi, interesting thread. I too have just brought the camera mentioned above by the OP for planetary imaging. Do I also need to buy filters? I’ll be using either a 2 or 3 x Barlow with a Edge HD. Ben
  22. Did you stop at Shark Bay? Some of the best snorkelling I’ve experienced and arguably a better reef then the Great Barrier. The Milky Way is by far my favourite subject in the sky, so thank you for sharing this wonderful image. Ben
  23. Just a suggestion and I could be wrong, but have you tried the speed settings in “Custom Rate 9”? I think it’s either, Telescope or Handset then settings and custom rate 9. You can change the dec and RA speeds separately from anywhere between 4.5% and 0.5%. Also since owning the HC, I haven’t updated the firmware. Ben
  24. Thank you I had BYE setup for exactly 100, though weather intervened. So probably out of 20 subs, one third had satellite trails and got binned. I stacked the remaining subs very roughly and I could clearly see the spiral. Thank you for the advice Dave, I will work on centring the object. I’ve had a reality check since my hyperstar suggestion and I now have a game plan. I recently brought myself a dedicated planetary camera (ZWO ASI 224 MC). I’m gonna work to my scopes strengths and chase planets next year and certain galaxies. Though I do keep looking at the RASA...
