  1. Hi Jim, the air is essentially a raspberry pi with zwo software already installed.. Not sure if they still run them but Atik did a similar thing a few years back.. It won't be in a similar price bracket thou
  2. Sorry my mistake, I thought you said you didnt
  3. No you do not... The zero position has a sensor indeed but you never loosen the clutches in order to send it there I bet you've had a heq5?
  4. There's loads of info out there on advanced planetary imaging, exposure/ gain has a massive contribution to frame rate... With planetary imaging combination of focus, collimation ( if needed) exposure and gain , alongside a decent Jetstream position and clear skies... Try not to shoot above rooftops and thermal distortion will effect capture.. It all needs to come together all at once
  5. Depends how you see it.. if you want to see it like that then it's not my problem I don't see the relevance of the post other than to cause damage to SX.. somehow ( Adam) sees it that if he titles it "Are starlight xpress dead in the water" they're going to make him a camera with a 533m chip.. why doesn't he just buy a 533m for qhy or zwo, it's like asking zwo to make a CCD, but not directly, but via a forum.. like he's having some sort of influence by insulting them Sorry that you see it from that side of the fence
  6. The norm is a nice wide camera lens of say 14mm.. Your setup will be sampling far lower to image targets within the milky way... As a example, with my 14mm samyang I can see the lagoon etc as red blobs... With your setup I'd expect them to be rather large
  7. How do you mean holding companies to account? Are you saying you want to hold SX to account over something? Im sure that you have no influence on what gets made and how..
  8. With the cem 60 you have to connect the rs232 to the mount and laptop/ pc for the motor control board And the handset to laptop/ pc for the other if I remember correctly
  9. Not too sure on why that's any concern of you.. Why don't you just let them get on with development of there next generation cameras, they're not the high volume mass production market, zwo have that pretty much cornered Starlight xpress, atik, QSI, Sbig, FlI all have low volume high quality end sorted If you want to support a UK based camera manufacturer then buy one of their cameras.. simples.. No it's not a CCD/ CMOS debate, but which came first.. the chicken or the egg...
  10. Really, so you would rather Renault Clio to a Aston Martin or a Lamborghini?
  11. Think you answered your own answer there, problem is with people obsessed with dimising the CCD if enough people repeat what's being said some people think it's true and then often repeat the same thing even though some have never owned or used a CCD.. we all know that someday it will happen, but forcing the issues won't help anyone especially those who's majority of their business is selling ccd A friend who has various CCD and CMOS has told me that he sees the CMOS data as thin compares the 533 to the 414, but nowhere near the 460 or 383... These are live tests and not maths related , I have a huge respect for him and the way he processes his images, CCD or cmos "You can be sure that if it doesn't sell I will be pushing someone in its direction at some point in the near future. Adam" Yes I've enquired into that particular camera with David as I love a 460, but as I've also enquired into a few others around the same time, it's nice to have a bit of a choice.. a 460 for the same ish price as a 314 from not so long ago, bargain..
  12. Hopefully this is not too political a statement for SGL but for many reasons I have the option I would rather buy from a local company than China. It seems that currently I don't have that option if I want a modern CMOS camera. So I think you can excuse my concern Steve when its been 3-4 years since Starlight Xpress released the Blue pro model CCD cameras. With no public announcements of new products since then that I am aware of I doubt that I am the only one left wondering. I don't think that's true Do you own any CCD from atik or starlight xpress... Not have you, do you?
  13. Seems like a very one sided attack from the CMOS advocate... Ask yourself the question that they seemed to work a few years ago so what's changed, they still will deliver cracking images and continue to function, guess where the tilt sensor testing idea came from.. no it wasn't u tube.. Do starlight xpress suffer with grease on sensors and expect the customers to clean it off with the potential of dust entering the sensor window, does it take them weeks or months to repair , yes you pay alot more to begin with as UK manufacturing cost far more, plus they have decent customer care.. both atik and starlight xpress don't flood the market with new ranges for only that range to be superceded within months when the latest best thing comes out.. more to a camera than just a sensor as you well know... That's why their cameras cost more .. pretty obvious to me.. The more these silly stabs at ccd have driven down the costs on the used market, not really touched the new costs by much as they can't make them much cheaper..
  14. So do you want something to capture m31 in full? The stellarmira 90 is a cracking scope for the money.. not sure on your budget but it should fit in especially if you buy the reducer
  15. Did you take all the screws out at the same time, doing it one by one you wouldn't have to.. Anyway, if you took the secondary out it still doesn't need a factory realignment as you've only moved the secondary, which is what sct collimation is It's a little daunting at first but simple after a few goes
  16. If youve replaced the collimation screws with bobs knobs expect to learn how to collimate as you will be far more frequently than if you left the original ones in
  17. Compare SGP to Nina... Is SGP better because it costs more? Did people jump ship because of money ?
  18. On my phone it looks like you're slightly too long to me
  19. The telescope is the same design as the redcat( petzval) the askar has a slightly bigger objective by 9mm and a longer FL , if you plug the specs into astromany tools fov with the camera of your choice you can get a feel for what targets you want to shoot, so you may want to re-adjust.. 250-300mm is a very wide fov The avx is a great mount for that size and above refractor, and is fine for if you want to shoot some planetary with a 8 or poss a 9.25 SCT at a later date.. but realistically any heq5 , ioptron 28 upwards will suit, aswell as being fairly portable.. Cameras... Lots of cameras have positives and negatives.. the 533 is worth some serious thought, if going mono qhy now has a 533m Personally I'd not restrict yourself to the ASI air, in terms of restrictions to zwo products and restrictions on software such as PhD.. if you're tech geeks you shouldn't have too many problems with figuring out software, the ASI air is only a raspberry pi with a preloaded software after all Autofocuser.. the EAF gets a good reputation but loads on the market now Finally enjoy what you're using, it's highly rewarding and addictive, don't be shy to ask questions
  20. Are they??. run a check on the qhy 268 and the zwo 2600, same sensor, last time I checked there was quite a gap
