Hi @Sypher37 and welcome to SGL. Agree with what has been said above. They are either 3mm or 4mm. I usually buy replacements with a plastic cap on the head. They are easier to grip when tighten/loosen, when wearing gloves or mittens during the winter months. Have you got a 90 degree diagonal? - the 45 degree are usually supplied with terrestrial/nature observing/viewing 'scopes.

I will confess that since I ordered and received mine, I have not had chance to try mine out or use my ‘scopes due to my shift pattern and the GB/UK 🇬🇧 weather… ie clear skies when I am working… cloudy/overcast on my rest days. Good to see this topic is having good following and response.

Hi @Louis D Apologies from side-tracking this topic, but how do you get SkEye to track/view the target when it is in a horizontal plane? (as shown in your second image). I can only get it to show the horizon when it is in the vertical plane. I would like to do the same with an 'old' Google Pixel 3a that I have.

That’s the problem. Amateur astronomy is a niche market and the likes of the BBC, ITV, C4, C5 like to or want to fill it with rubbish TV, like Big Brother or I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Here and other ‘reality’/‘fly-on-the-wall’ and ‘talent shows’, etc. YouTube and other media sites have more to hobbies, interests and subjects to view and not restricted to your home country.

How many times have you lost the elusive nut, bolt, screw, etc? It would make sense if ‘scope manufacturers included a list of of screw sizes too! …I have taken many ‘scope parts to the local DIY/hardware emporium to search/find a replacement.

Should be 1.25” …unless someone has welded a 0.965” adapter to the focuser during a metalwork class/lesson! I think the shoe for the RDF is the standard dovetail base.

One thing I find that is important with ‘wide-field’ eyepieces and that is to place the centre of your eye with the centre of the eyepiece. That was the reason that TeleVue supplied the ‘Pupil Guide’ [image below with instructions] with the Radian series and Nagler Type 4’s. TV Radian Eyepiece Instructions.pdf

Following on this… any rechargeable batteries [Li-Ion, Li-Po, Ni-Mh, Ni-Cd, etc] and/or other electronic devices where the battery compartment is sealed [also includes vape sticks/pens/devices] must not be placed in your luggage that goes in the aircraft hold. You will be asked at check-in by the airline staff or airline handling agent staff.

I maybe one of a few that own a TeleVue 13mm Nagler Type 1 & Type 6. I enjoy the views in both. If I want a bit more power and sacrificing the 'wide' FOV, I use my TeleVue 6 and 8mm Radian’s.

I sometimes put my Ayo or Giro on my Manfrotto 055PROB and open the legs to the second position for extra stability… and I don’t fully extend the legs either. Image above of my Ayo and Giro mounts on SkyWatcher aluminium tripods. I don’t fully extend the legs on these tripods too!

No! Simply put, it would 'overheat' the tube and damage the corrector plate ... and for Maksutov's the adhesive/glue for the baffle on the secondary mirror will soften and fall off... then there is the residue to clean upoff the meniscus cell and primary mirror...

Agreed! My glass full aperture solar filter has a few pin-pricks and I do not use it any more. My TeleVue Ranger [left] and a half-binocular [right] with a Lunt Herschel/solar wedge.

Forgetting to cover or remove my RDF from the OTA whilst photographing/viewing the 1999 solar eclipse. Even though an RDF does not magnify, it certainly makes sense to cover/remove it. I had a sore/tender forehead for a few days. BTW… I do have and had a solar finder attached to the OTA at the time too!

I too use a pistol/trigger grip for my binoculars too on either my camera tripod or one of three monopods. Should you decide to use an 'L' bracket or monopod, 3/8" to 1/4" reducers are a must have. I purchased a multi-buy pack of the ones shown below, should I lose one [it worked out cheaper than buying one or two]. Other threaded reducer types are also available. Mine has! bit-locker enabled and now I am locked out. Entered the recovery key from MS and says: "The recovery key entered is not valid." or something similar. It was fine until the last update I installed the night before... Fresh re-install of W10PRO me thinks.

Also... what's your budget? I use either of these!

Also dependent on whether you want to travel with a 'scope, spend more time viewing than setting up, etc.
