  1. Well, It turns out the camera rotation is actually marked in the FITS header! I didn't see it as I was opening 'correctly' orientated subs and reviewing the header whereas if I had opened a rotated sub I would have seen the information! 2. It's good when you ask a question and get an answer! especially when the answer includes information that covers questions you didn't even know you wanted to ask!! Thanks again for the input. I think this forum and this community are awesome!! clear skies Bryan
  3. My FITS header information is displayed slightly differently to Carole's but essentially gives the same numbers. I can't see anything in there to denote orientation though?

  5. I have just opened the file myself to check the upload and it opened in ps fits liberator 2 and I can see the tab for image headers! I'm always learning! I'm not sure there is anything in there to indicate camera orientation though?
  6. Here is one of the subs for your scrutiny cheers rev broom_013_oiii.fit
  7. Hi David I am not entirely sure what the FITS header is? I have been referring to the filename or the image properties but if there is more information hidden in the FITS that can possibly help I'd be interested in learning about it! Cheers Bryan
  8. To be absolutely honest Olly I don't know if it does? I am just getting to grips (and that's a loose grip!) with it's basic registration, calibration and integration routines! It seems quite powerful and the results so far have looked promising but in the future I need to resist the temptation to rotate the camera as I have just caused myself extra unnecessary work after hours of cloud and shower dodging! Bryan
  9. Just a quick thanks to everyone for contributing to this thread I am learning a lot, mainly about pixinsight and AstroArt, which I don’t personally use, I am just trying to get my head around astro pixel processor, but I may take a look at these other programs! thanks again Bryan
  10. That camera has an option to rotate the image 180 degrees which can be useful do alignment with a previous imaging session especially after a meridian flip, the problem is, if you forget to uncheck the rotate camera option then the subs will be “upside down” in relation to your calibration frames. A flipped flat would be a flat taken with the rotate camera option checked so you can calibrate the frames taken “by accident’ the problem I have, as David kindly pointed out, is identifying the images that have been taken in the rotate mode as they look the same as images taken before the meridian. I hope that makes sense? cheers Bryan
  11. thanks guys I’ll give both of these a try, and tooth dr, I haven’t got as far as a multi-session imaging stacking plan yet, I’m only just getting familiar with the program but you’ve given me useful information to encourage me to keep learning! Thanks again Bryan
  12. Thanks David I have worked out how to set a reference frame when integrating lights with bad pixel map etc, the thing I’m not sure about is how to set a reference frame that isn’t going to be included in the integration process (apart from orientation etc) cheers Bryan
  13. It just goes to show.... sometimes you can solve a personal problem by giving advice to someone else with a similar issue!
  14. Hi I am playing around with APP and I am initially impressed but I have a question........ When using DSS I can select a reference frame in any group and although I am not integrating that frame into the stack it ensures my separate filter stacks then align in photoshop for further work. Is there a way of doing this in APP? Thanks in advance for any replies cheers Bryan
  15. Hi Peter Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. It's definitely an idea! I was hoping someone could tell me a way of identifying the rotated subs via software or some kind of file marker but if that's not possible then your suggestion is probably the next best option and a good one at that! Cheers Bryan
  16. Hi all I have been busy taking 20min subs of ngc6960 for the passed couple of months now and I want to produce the best stack I can but I have realized I definitely had rotate 180 degrees ticked on a few subs. This obviously presents a problem when applying flats darks and bias. Is there a way of finding out which subs are orientated 180? There doesn't seem to be anything in the file information to indicate which way the sub has been orientated. It should be simple, I should just be able to look at them and see which way round they are but I flipped a few times passed the meridian and not always straight away so unless I do some detective work with dates and times comparing cartes du ciel etc it isn't obvious! Do I have to do the detective work and then stack the reversed subs separately with correctly orientated calibration frames then stack the results in something like photoshop? I am just starting to play with astropixel processor and its become obvious to me I need to stick to 1 orientation. The thing is, I sometimes 'flip' the image to check the framing and have been known to forget to untick the rotate button!! 🙄 Any help or suggestions will be great thanks Bryan
  17. Hi Alan no, it definitely wasn’t taken through my 12”! I need to update my signature to add some equipment. The telescope i used is a revelation Astro ed100 doublet. I’ve had it a while now and recently upgraded the focuser to one of these https://www.telescopehouse.com/revelation-ultrafocus-2-7-inch-rack-n-pin-refractor-focuser.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwivbsBRDsARIsADyISJ-5SUzD3tVKagrAHukkiUOOc_LI_We8X5h4JxyuDHUd0uowUzj9rRcaAhfiEALw_wcB and with its f6 optics and it’s 600mm fl it seems like a good match for my atik460. I have to refocus carefully with every filter change but the new focuser makes that so much easier than before! cheers Bryan
  18. Thanks Mick There was more nebulosity available in the subs but I struggled with the green channel and had to tone it down to attempt to balance it. I will try and obtain some fresh green subs or maybe synthesize a green channel from the red and blue? I wanted to try Hasta la vista green plugin for photoshop but I can't seem to install it in ps6? I have always loved Pleiades and would like to make a print of it one day! I will continue!! clear skies Bryan
  19. I really like this! It’s on my “to do” list and this is a lovely example! Thanks for sharing Bryan
  20. Ah Hasta la vista green Plug in! I was wanting to try this but I cannot seem to add it to plug-ins in ps6.
  21. Great galaxy shot peter! I think scnr green and Hlvg might be Pixinsight acronyms, I’m not sure as I don’t have it? thanks for sharing Bryan
  22. It’s difficult to decide which one I like the best. I think, for me, the HOO is my favourite! Well done on the mosaic, I haven’t tried on yet, and yours looks seamless thanks for sharing Bryan
  23. Hi here (as the title suggests) is my first attempt at an lrgb version of one of my favourite dso’s Its a compilation of a few short exposures with a mono Atik460 through my rev Astro ed100. About 8 x 4min per channel, stacked in dss and tweaked in ps and ps express on my phone after! Cheers Bryan
  24. Simply Stunning and soo smooth! I love it! Thanks for sharing Bryan
  25. Thanks for the comment Alan It's my preferred image too as the hso is less natural and needs more work maybe even starting from scratch. I have to admit, I haven't seen the nebula with my eye! possibly due to the light pollution at my site. It is one of my favourite DSO's and on my bucket list to actually see. Clear skies Bryan
