I'm sure you will be fine once you get started. Wish I could do something like that, but just haven't got the time.

Its mad, when I was 20 I'd work out in the snow in a t-shirt. Now 10 years on, the slightest chill in the air and I'm under a cover on the sofa! Cold definitely gets me when observing nowadays.

Money well spent I reckon. I'm the same even this time of year I wear full on winter kit. Better too hot than cold and being uncomfortable!

Went out In my two fleeces tonight. Didn't feel cold. Moment I took them off in the house realised how cold it was! Best £28 spent I think.

  5. Big Scopes are worth every penny :D :D :D!! So is John Nichol! What a mirror, what a night!

Well, good two hours!!! FIrst time I tried the mirror out on DSOs and well, if M3 is an indication of what Is to come, then WOW!

  6. Built a desiccant cap out of an old bolt case with some holes drilled in it, and some silica sachets. Cost, about £3 for 100 packs.

  7. Built a dew band for my eyepieces today. Now to attempt one for my 4 inch scope.

  8. Clear skies tonight. That will be the 6th night out in 10 or 11 days. Not bad!

Yeah I was like that when I worked, but a situation has allowed me to take a few months off, so I can view this autumn and winter!

Congratulations on seeing it, I have yet to spy this massive expanse. I have an OIII filter coming so hopefully start viewing this as a regular target. There is an amazing image if you simply search 'veil in UV'. It looks like a skull with a star in one socket. Unreal :)

    3. gooseholla

      gooseholla

Went back and saw some more of it tonight. It is such an amazing sight!

    4. jabeoo1

      jabeoo1

I located the area with my widest field EP & with no access to the OIII stared at the black absence of the veil. The LP here washed out much of the sky so concentrated on some doubles.

OIII should be here today (yay!).

  17. Forgot how claustrophobic views through plossls and kellners are!

  18. Found M40, M97, M108, M109, M81 and M82 already, and streelights aren't even off yet! Roll on midnight.

      Stargazer33

Sounds like you had a good night. Wish our streetlights went off at midnight. People round here get scared if one bulb goes out!

    4. gooseholla

      gooseholla

Yeah was good. I wish security lights would go out round here! But yeah, tis nice to have the street lights go off.

  19. Getting nearer the day when my mirror turns up. Yey!

  20. Getting ready to see the transits of Jupiter. Go away clouds!

  21. Go away clouds, got a busy night in Ursa Major and Canes V. planned.

  22. Going to have a go at making some dew bands. Got all the bits for less than a tenner!

  23. Good to see Mars again after 2 years, and also highlighted some mods for my dob/scope setup.
