  1. As others have said, use a long dewshield to keep the secondary from dewing over or attach a heater to it and keep the eyepieces warm. The tube will protect the primary from dewing over for a longtime. The tube and mount will be fine even if they are covered in dew (or ice in winter), just towel them dry when you put them back into storage. You could try experimenting with the fan to see if it helps, though I found on some scopes - a Maksutov in particular - it made things worse if you used the fan too much.
  2. @Kon Given the quality of your images I don’t think you have anything to worry about at all 👍
  3. Hello @a6400 You have had offers of help on this site and CloudyNights from people who live close to you. Is there something in particular that you are looking for ?
  4. Hello Tico and welcome to SGL. Most 10” Dobsonians you can buy today are very good - Skywatcher, Celestron, Bresser, GSO to name some of the scopes available in the UK. These may be sold under different names in other countries but you cannot go far wrong with any 10” Dobsonian these days. Orion Optics (UK) manufacture premium Dobsonians with very high spec optics. Hope that helps
  5. If you stand your Taks on concrete like that again I will report you to the RSPCT 🥴
  6. There is nothing wrong with taking a break 👍 I found as I got older that the heavy scope and mount that I had to setup and take down every observing session was putting me off going out. I have now downsized to a much lighter scope and mount that suits me better and have done much more observing. I chose a refactor for this as it cools quickly and never needs collimating - it’s just more useable and hassle free. Food for thought, good luck with your choice whatever you do
  7. It’s sold, hopefully bought by an SGL member who can tell us all about it ……
  8. I plan to clean my primary mirror soon and at the same time would like to clean up the baffle and then re grease to reduce image shift - running the mirror up and down does not help. Any suggestions for a good grease for the primary baffle in moving moving mirror scopes ?
  9. You are around 35% central obstruction Michael so not too bad and certainly worth pointing it at Jupiter in the Autumn,
  10. How is the primary held in place around the central baffle - is it a circular screw down disk ? If so I would check if it is too tight It’s also worth checking that the secondary housing is not too tight. Have you tried viewing straight through with no diagonal and different eyepieces ? Also are any of the finder screws contacting the mirror ? Good luck 👍
  11. Whether by chance or design that’s probably a good thing 🤔
  12. Those are great images @sorrimen 👍 Which ADC are you using ? My local seeing can be poor so am thinking about an ADC.
  13. Thats right 👍 I see that you are also a CN card carrier and a vendor affiliate. In my opinion it’s a poor practice for one vendor to try to undermine another one publicly.
  14. @sojourneyer In my opinion you are border line bashing both a supplier and CN - I wonder why ? You seem to be trying to discourage people to buy a particular make of scope but at the end of the day it’s their choice what they do. Perhaps it would be better to just move on from the issue you have ?
  15. I believe the Skywatcher 127 works at a true aperture of around 120mm and a focal ratio of around F/12 whereas the Bresser is a true 127mm scope working at F/15. This should on paper give the Bresser an edge at the eyepiece but maybe not so much in reality. The SW has a “standard” type finder mount, the Bresser does not. The Bresser is white and the SW is blue. Back to you …. 🙂
  16. Hello @CanadianShari and welcome to SGL. It would be a good idea to connect with your local astronomy group and/or a local telescope retailer to see some scopes in person. If this is not possible then I would suggest a Dobsonian telescope, these gives excellent views of all objects - not just the planets and are easy to setup and use. A 6 or 8 inch Dobsonian like this would be a very good choice….. https://www.atlanticphotosupply.com/shop/sky-watcher-dob-6-traditional-telescope/cdd64400-d8c0-012e-87b7-20cf30bab63e?variation=743974 Other makes are available (Orion, Celestron) but fundamentally they are all the same. Don’t be fooled by the price these are VERY capable scopes. Also to help your daughter find out what is where is the night sky you could download “Stellarium” which is free and excellent. Hope that helps
  17. That’s a great observation Mike, I was out just before you but had very poor seeing through the DZ 😕
  18. The loss of your childrens sleep will soon be forgotten but they will always remember Dad showing them Saturn for the first time 👍 Saturn is very low this year and not showing much detail but will get better over the coming years, see this planetary graph by SGL member @Stu
