  1. Welcome to SGL, this is a UK based site but see the post made by bosun21 above 👍
  2. They are not magic enough to overcome big high quality mirrors 👍 Lights touch paper and steps back 🤣
  3. This may fit, but check with FLO first…. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/sky-watcher-mount-accessories/sky-watcher-stainless-steel-175-tripod-for-heq5-eq5.html
  4. Just mulling things over @vlaiv on a cloudy day/week/month. But thanks for the considerations 👍
  5. Well the Newt seems to be winning, but those refractors do look good…..
  6. I tend to match my scope aperture to the average seeing conditions where I live which is around 1 arc second. So I have a 120mm refractor with a resolution of 0.96 arc seconds. But I do mostly planetary viewing. IF I did DSO I would buy a light 10” Newtonian for the light grasp.
  7. Great sketches Mike. Yes it’s been a slow year so far for clear nights…..
  8. So that needs a 40” telescope then and I would have emigrate to Australia ☹️
  9. Different Eyepieces have different eye relief, this is the distance you need to place your eye from the lens to get a good view. I wear glasses when observing so buy long eye relief eyepieces - typically around 20mm I think the BST have around 16mm eye relief which is OK for non spectacle wearers.
  10. I have been mulling this over (because it’s cloudy - again 😩) 6” F/8 Newtonian or 4” F/10 achromat. What would you choose and why ?
  11. SGL is a great place to share, gain knowledge and have fun.
  12. As long as you don’t wear glasses when viewing these are good eyepieces…. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/bst-starguider-eyepieces.html Would suggest the 5mm for the planets to give x140. To calculate the magnification an eyepiece gives you divide the telescopes focal length (700mm in your scope) by the eyepiece focal length (5mm for the above eyepiece). For deepsky perhaps the 12mm giving x58 ?
  13. I don’t think that’s normal…
  14. Good decision, would suggest Baader Maxbrights 👍
