  1. I am another user of many scope types over the last 40 years. The scope that gave me the best views was a 10” Skywatcher Newtonian. The scope I enjoy using the most is a 5” refractor because the views have good detail and are so sharp. Hope that helps
  2. I often wonder why my seeing conditions seem to be poor when others out at the same time have good seeing conditions. I just found this image of the flight corridors across the UK, I marked where I live with a red spot which seems to be a junction for two major flight corridors !! That may explain why my seeing conditions were good during covid lockdown ? I think I need to move….
  3. Oh yes over and over again ! The C8 that replaced it needed collimating but was then excellent 🙂
  4. @JeremyS The issue with SCT’s is optical variability, it sounds like you have a very good one that works as a 9.25” should, perhaps @johnturley’s is not quite as good. I can say with 100% confidence that the C9.25 I owned was the worst telescope I ever looked through - it really was a lemon that had gone rotten ! Stupidly I bought a C8 years later - it was a stunner ! 🙂
  5. You should start your own thread on this so we can watch as you go along with the refurb 👍
  6. I went out to a perfectly clear night on the 18th and the seeing was terrible
  7. @DAT A star test will immediately tell you if your scope is collimated or not. But good star test or not if it looks like cotton wool and is unstable then your scope is either not cooled down or you have a poor quality sky. My scope is perfectly collimated and I know when it’s fully cooled, so if the views are poor - which they frequently are for me as I live just north of Manchester, then I know the sky quality is poor.
  8. The issue you are having could be poor seeing/jetsream related ?
  9. Very similar Mike, thanks for posting 👍 The seeing must have been poor as I dropped to x145, I normally view at x175 !
  10. What a shame this is your last Jup image, I for one look forward to them 👍
  11. Quite a marathon and on a very cold night, well done 👍

Perhaps you are talking about Jupiter which rises in the east, moves south and sets in the west ?

Here you go, you saw the Moon, Jupiter and the ISS

If it was around 18:15 then it was the International Space Station
  15. Here’s the eyepiece drawing, not great seeing, it took a while to see any detail.

Welcome to SGL @janemc40 This is a very friendly and helpful forum so ask any questions you like….
  17. Sorted 🙂 If anyone else has this problem….. The eyepiece locking rings unlock… left: anti-clockwise, right: clockwise. The dioptre adjusters unlock… left: clockwise, right: anti-clockwise.
  18. Well, we should have all defrosted after last night by now 🥶😱🤣 The GRS will be visible at a more decent time this evening - best between 16:15 and 18:15, central at around 17:15. I have a very cloudy wet forecast Saturday onwards for a week so I’m going to make the best of the next two potentially clear evenings as Jupiter is getting smaller quite quickly now….
  19. Thanks @globular Thats seems to be talking about the locking rings for the eyepiece which do move opposite to each other. My problem is the left diopter adjuster - marked with the red arrow, do these also unscrew in opposite directions or the same ?
  20. The left eyepiece dioptre focuser is stuck against the main eyepiece locking collar - if you have a pair of these can you tell me which way it unscrews please. (The right diopter focuser is ok and unscrews anti-clockwise) Thanks
