It's a ZWO ASI224MC

Is h there any way to put an Skywatcher AZ5 mount on an EQ3 tripod. The mount is 3/8" thread. The pic is the tripod. I don't mind chopping the tripod around.

How much difference does an IR/UV cut filter make for lunar and planetary imaging? Also is the ZWO one worth almost twice the price of the Svbony one? Thanks

Skywatcher 150p or 130m for planetary imaging?
PatrickO replied to PatrickO's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Does anyone have any thoughts on which OTA would be best for planetary imaging. -

Skywatcher 150p or 130m for planetary imaging?

That's a great image. Really impressed. If you have time I'd be interested to hear your technique. -
I'm hoping to do some planetary imaging this year. Would you think a SkyWatcher 130m or a 150p is better? I have both of these. My guess is that there isn't much to choose. The 130m has a slightly longer focal length (900 compared to 750), and the 150 gives about 30% more aperture. I'm going to use a ZWO ASI224 colour camera. Thanks

Anyone in East Yorkshire or Hull?
PatrickO posted a topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I'm a bit of a newbie to astronomy, although I've done a lot of photography. Just wondering if there's anyone in my area - HU11 postcode who'd be willing to meet up to give me a few tip. Especially on setting up my SkyWatcher 130m on it's Equatorial Mount, Thanks, Patrick -

Skywatcher Explorer 130M SynScan AZ GOTO
PatrickO replied to PatrickO's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
I would use a barlow. I have the 130M 130/900 already. Being offered the mount at a good price. -
I have the opportunity to buy a Skywatcher Explorer 130m SynScan AZ GOTO Telescope at a good price. Would this be acceptable for planetary and lunar photography with either my DSLR or a ZWO planetary camera? I understand it's not ideal, but budget is limited. Many thanks for advice.

Thanks Steve. Good advice.

I'm keen to get into lunar imaging. Especially high res images of individual features. Anyway, this is a shot taken with a Nikon D7200 and 200-500 lens at 500mm. Just a single image edited with Lightroom. I'm picking up a used Starwatcher 130M tomorrow. Any advice/suggestions most welcome.

It's a SkyWatcher Explorer 130P The OTA is marked f=900 divided by 130 makes it f/6.92 if I'm doing the sums right.

I'm looking for advice on an inexpensive way to do detailed imaging of the Moon. Especially imaging individual features such as large craters and mountain ranges. I've been doing lots of reading, but ended up getting more and more confused. I don't have a telescope at present, but do have: Nikon DSLR, Baader Hyperion zoom and barlow. Also have an AZ5 mount. I have the option to buy a Skywatcher 130P with EQ2 mount and motor drive for £100. Also wondering if a dedicated planetary camera would be useful. Advice much appreciated.

Telescope for occasional inexpert dabbling
PatrickO replied to PatrickO's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Thanks David, that's great advice. Lots of things I hadn't thought about. -
I have not seen it except through our club's large telescope. From what I have read it is not easy to spot. You need dark sky, i.e. away from city light pollution and no bright moon. With binoculars it will appear as a large but very subtle fuzzy patch of pale light. Two or three times the size of the moon ,but very subtle Here's quite a good article https://earthsky.org/tonight/find-the-andromeda-galaxy-in-autumn

Which constellations to learn?
PatrickO replied to PatrickO's topic in Getting Started With Observing
Many thanks for those useful replies. My front garden is badly affected by street lights and neighbours' security lights. The street lights go off at midnight, but unfortunately I'm very much a lark rather than an owl! My back garden has less direct light with only the background city light pollution, but it's 90% obscured by overhanging trees. We will probably be moving house this year and one of my criteria for the new house is good observing. I do have books and planisphere. Just wanted people's views on some important constellations so I can make a plan. Once again many thanks for suggestions. Patrick -
I'm pretty much a newbie and mainly interested in visual observing at present. Trying to give some structure to learning the sky. What would you say are the 10 or 12 (or more) most important constellations in astronomy? I'm using binoculars and a small telescope. Thanks, Patrick

If I remove the eyepiece holder there is a screw thread. Will the adapter screw straight into that? Thanks

I have newly acquired the 130PDS and would like to try some basic AP with my Nikon D3200. I've ordered a T-ring https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0002379UO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Do I need anything else to connect the camera to the telescope? Sorry if this is too much a newbie question. I thought the people on this thread would be best able to answer.
