  1. I've now got a Celestron Nexstar 4se which I want to use for close up moon photography. I had originally thought to use the ZWO ASI224MC. However, I've noticed there are several other ZWO cameras for £200 to £300. Does anyone have any thoughts on what would be the best camera to use with the Nexstar 4se for lunar close ups? I might try some Jupiter and Saturn imaging in the future. Not planning on any DSO.
  2. Many thanks for very helpful replies. Sounds like tracking is the way to go. I'm thinking of attaching my DSLR to a small guided telescope. Something like a Celestron Nexstar 4se. Would that be a good, inexpensive and easy option. I don't mind doing a polar alignment.
  3. I've got some nice moon images using a DSLR and 500mm lens using 1-2 minute video lucky imaging. No tracking. I use PIPP to align the images. I'd like to try some close up shots with a small long focal length telescope and a ZWO camera. My question is do I need tracking for images of around 1/4 to 1/8 of the moon's disc? I've no plans to do DSO photography. And I want to keep it as simple as possible.
  4. Great review. I like that you honestly assess it's good and bad points. Some reviews I've seen promote the S50 as the best thing that's ever happened to amateur astronomy.
  5. Thanks. I'm asking just about the Optical Tube Assembly. I'm guessing cadiotropic design of some sort.
  6. Which type of OTA design has the lightest weight for a given aperture? Thanks
  7. I'm going to start doing some lunar imaging. I'm using an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II MFT camera and an Olympus 300mm f4 lens. To get a frame filling moon would I be better to use a x2 teleconverter, a x1.4 teleconverter or just crop more. I have the teleconverters already so it's no extra cost. Any other advice gratefully received. I'm planning to use a tripod. I have a star tracker so could use that. Thanks, Patrick
  8. That's encouraging. I'm in a Bortle 4. I bit the bullet and ordered the Polaris yesterday. I also have that same 300mm lens which I use for bird photography.
  9. Excellent. Beautiful capture. What is your sky like?
  10. That's a wonderful image. I'm seriously considering the Benro Polaris Astro and read a few reviews. The other alternative might be the Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTi Would you say this is good for a relative beginner? I've done a lot of photography over the years and some astronomy observing, but very little astrophotography. Planning to use my Olympus e-m1 mark ii. Mainly hoping to do relatively easy subjects such as M31, M45, the Moon and possibly Milky Way. Have you needed to make any adaptions to make it work?
  11. Thanks so much for that very helpful reply. I'll take a look at Astrobackyard's video as well.
  12. Will NINA work with any (or most) modern mounts and cameras? Is the mount doing the tracking or NINA. Thanks
  13. Many thanks for replies. Has anyone tried the Benro Polaris Astro? Expensive but gets good reviews.
  14. I'd be grateful for advice on the best star tracker to use with a DSLR and telephoto lens for a relative beginner. Looking to photograph Milky Way, Andromeda galaxy and other relatively easy objects. I'm most interested in ease of use, quick set up and build quality. Budget is not so much of an issue. Many thanks, Patrick
  15. This came with a scope I bought recently. Can anyone tell me what it is ? It needs batteries, but not sure what ones.
  16. Mostly visual and EEVA. That's very useful to know.
  17. Well got a 65mm tube and got focus on a barn about a mile away. Just need the cloud to clear to try out for real. Hoping to do some EEVA.
  18. Thanks guys. That's great information. Definitely enough to get me started. Especially useful to know I can start with the equipment I already have.
  19. Thanks guys. I've ordered a 65mm tube. I'll try that on a distant object in daylight.
  20. I'm trying to use a ZWO ASI 224mc with a William Optics Megrez 72mm f/6 APO refractor. I'm not able to focus and think I need an extension tube. Other than trial and error is there a way to work out what extension tube I need? Many thanks.
