Quick and dirty AP

Hi

Have been playing with a qhy5l-ii mono as an imaging camera! Just to see what I might get. It's not cooled so is noisy. On the plus side, it's high QE means you can get brighter Messier objects e.g. star clusters, very quickly. Here's an M37 I did the other night:

It's just 50 x 6 second exposures, of which I stacked 60% in dss. Stacked with 50 darks. The result is not too bad, considering. Minimal processing applied Scope was an ST80 so not the sharpest of images. Next time I might try dithering to reduce the noise and I also have a Astronomik ProPlanet 642 BP IR-pass filter to try. Hoping to pick up some Ha.

The cameras pick up Ha very well.  Certainly, the GPCAM does with a 2 or 3 minute sub keeping the gain fairly low. Pity the damn thing is so noisy for long exposures although 30 seconds is not too bad.   I found it very good for globular clusters though.
