..or did someone mention about a dark sky location sticky?...don't want to poke my nose in or upset anyone as this is by a country mile the best astro forum on the web....could a section be ran as trial e.g. location = Longnor  staffs moorlands, good vista, slight light domes  map ref .....1 hr from stoke 1 hr from east manchesterhttps://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Longnor,+Buxton,+Staffordshire+SK17/@53.1819765,-1.869119,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x487a3a52a4e7f7e5:0xdf2b931c493701bf....we could swap places with other SGLers save running around looking for good spots...and there hardly goona get swamped with vistors!...in fact it would encourage meet ups

I think most of us would benefit from this.

I haven't been out to a dark site in ages because the one I have used a few times is an hours drive away.

If everyone who uses a dark sky site revealed their spot, I think more of us would make an effort to get out of light polluted towns/cities and would enjoy the hobby more.

Perhaps there are dark sky site closer to us all than we realise?

Wouldn't it be better is there was one under each of the sections under Social Groups?

At least the any are relevant to that area.

Just thinking that if someone posts for this area then after about 15-20 others it drops off and the new ones are likely irrelevant.

Another option is create a Google Map, pin the dark sites and have a link to the map.

Does mean one or two have to maintain it however.

Yes I like the idea for this, perhaps a simple pinned dedicated thread, Dark Sky Observing Sites, in the Section, Observing - Deep Sky.

As mentioned, social group sections would be fine, but this does not cover all areas such as my own. With either option, then if you happen to be traveling some place for a weekend break for example, or plan to meet with SGL members out of your region this could be additionally useful. This also reminds me that I have friends who lives in Longnor village that I long over due need to plan to catch up with. Encouraging others to plan to get out of Town based upon good first hand and local knowledge -  in which if necessary the post contributed by the member can be additionally sent a PM for clarifying any further info if required is positive.

Of course Local Astro Clubs are a good basis to start dark sky trips to.
