Thanks to the excellent and very much appreciated help of another SGLer I have converted my short HEQ5 pillar and replaced the pipe with a longer length of aluminium tube. Using the offcut we managed to add this to the AZ4 tripod and the giro now sits at about the same height on both. This allows comfy viewing even at the zenith.

without Chris's expertise it would have take hours of much less accurate sanding and filing. I'd have got there in the end but this is different class. just very briefly looking at the double double was so comfy. I am still of the opinion that observer comfort/observing position is a major factor in my enjoyment.

Thats a great looking setup  :smiley:

These long refractors do take some mounting. My big Istar refractor has a 6.5 foot long tube  :shocked:

Never thought I'd see a scope with those proportions in your fleet Shane  :smiley:
