So here I am in the Dordogne. ..

... beautiful clear night. I can see the milky way from Casseopia to Deneb and beyond. It is a balmy 26 degrees at midnight, I am 20 miles from the nearest street light or main road. I have my camera fully carged, fresh batteries for the astro-trac, I have a shiny new 28mm f1.8 lens and the ball head mount for the camera is 500 miles away back in Gloucestershire. ..

Bother said Pooh as he was restricted to just static shots. I have been trying a star trail as I can not take long exposure shots. I will also see what the lens is capable of with some 15 or 20 second shots of the milky way.

Ho hum...

Yeah it really sucks.

one of these days i went to a dark site, took my mount and when i was going to attach the camera i saw i had forgotten the adapter.

i was just 5 minutes away from home but i know the feeling.

A real shame, but at least you could appreciate the view. If you are over there for any time you could buy another and sell it on eBay when you get back maybe? Shouldn't make too much of a loss doing it that way.

I had a similar <bleep> moment last night. I changed the batteries in my camera remote to rechargeables, all seemed fine. Then on site it was reporting low battery immediately. Wasn't too concerned as I knew I had a spare pair in my bag, but discovered that when your pair is not a pair you are liable to go spare in despair. Without the remote I was limited to 30 second exposures, so settled for taking a few test shots with my 250mm zoom lens.

We are only here for a week, so itis not worth investing in anything. Besides we are so far out into the sticks that it would be hard to purchase anything. On the other hand, it is the in-laws house, so we are welcome back anytime we want.
