Is It Possible?

Recommended Posts

I think I'm going to be giving my cpc 800 it's first light tonight and as I don't do things by half was wondering if it was possible to image M57 The Ring Nebula using a qhy5l-ii colour? I'm aware that I'm going to get 30 seconds before star rotation kicks in.

At that kind of focal length I imagine the rotation might become obvious somewhat faster than 30 seconds.  I don't see why it wouldn't work in principle though (say, if the scope was on a wedge).  I've done similar with a DSLR.

Exceptionally sticky and becoming cloudy here (21C at midnight!).  Promise of clear sky later though, so if that happens I might be tempted out myself if I can stay awake that long.  It's been a long day already :(

give it a go, nothing ventured, nothing gained. worse case scenario will be it doesnt work and somebody in the future, will come across this thread with the intention of trying something similar.whatever the results it will be interesting to see good luck!

I didnt bother in the end as I thought I'd just get used to aligning the scope and it's features. Will definitely give it a go though now. They are both superb pictures. Give it another go James.

The angular amount of rotation is not focal length dependent, so you should still get at least 30 secs.

I'm going to have a go at imaging this tonight if it stays clear. Any tips on settings? EZ planetary or Firecapture?

EZ planetary is the one I use.I have used Fire Capture,

but it does not always work  properly. My camera is the IMG

132E .They are both a bit buggie.Sharp Cap is not to bad.

Take your pick really
