Telescope Bottom Heavy

I am setting up my QSI with ED80 etc & it is bottom heavy. Please can someone advise what I have to do?

can't you just slide the OTA up further in the rings to find balance??

The problem with the ED80 is that the dovetail/rings interfere with how far forward you can push the scope to balance out the bottom-heaviness.

I read something the other day about adding weight to the front-end of the dovetail bar as a means of evening things out.

Don't know how you'd do it but it sounds feasible (velcro wrist-weights :-)

What about using a shorter dovetail - I had to do that to balance a SM60 double stack etc on the front end!

Could you bolt a longer dovetail bar to the tube rings - then you could move the whole setup forward in relation to the mount head ?.

This seems the safest bet to me.

Hi Fay,

John beat me to linking to my thread.

You definitely need the longer bar if you are starting to put things like cameras on the end.

I had to re drill the longer dovetail bar and it worked no problem. The smaller one is not on top with the spotter scope on.

OVL were very prompt with delivery and their price is very good as well.
