Piers127
Hi,There's a lot of information about maximum practical magnification, but what would be the maximum practical field of view from my 127 Mak? Most standard EPs seem to be around 52 deg. Better quality around 68 deg+ and the ones I can't afford up to 88 deg. Would I really get an advantage from going over the standard FOV with the telescope I own? If not, I'm tempted by a Baader 8-24mm zoom (52 deg) as a do-it-all EP for most applications. Many thanks,Piers
Mr Spock
Maks are limited by the size of the central hole the light passes through. I would think a 24mm 68° eyepiece would be about the maximum at 1.1°.
CGolder
be aware that the zooms seem to be a little backwards when using FOV, they have a large FOV at high mag and a small FOV at low Mag, so a zoom will not produce the maximum Fov possible in your scope as its 24mm at around 50 degrees. Macavity
In practice, with a MAK127, visually, you can get 1.4 ~ 1.5 degrees (maybe more) with a 2" diagonal and (say) 32mm 70 deg 2" eyepiece. Experiment! Investment versus reward? A useful field increase for framing some DSOs though.
Piers127
Thanks all, I'll stick with prime EPs from what you're saying. Hyperions here I come!
