*new data on post #10*

I shot this last night under poor conditions, after shooting some Red and blue data for my HH shot.

I had a shadow over the left hand side of the CCD i missed during exposure, I think it was from the pickup prism of the Off axis guider. This was compounded by flats that seem to over compensate.

Given that the faint detail was lost to the conditions I may scrap this data for a better night if new flats don't help, but as I shot it thought I might as well post it.

On the plus side at least this marks the start of galaxy season for me.

18 @ 5 min's through my 10" newt.

Nice start Mike.

Don't scrap it, you can always use the data.

Once you've got some more subs (with proper flats etc), do 2 stacks...one of just new data, and one with this data also.

Layer them in PS, and erase all but the galaxy in the layer with all the data (this should be on top). That way, you'll have a good background, and plenty of subs for the galaxy.

Cheers

Rob

Another 36 @ 5 min's last night has smoothed things out and helped with the poor flats and shadow from the first run.

This is a straight stack of all the data with no mask over the old background, the weight of the new data has sorted the problem out.

The image is now 54 @ 5 mins L

This one should respond well to some long Ha subs and then colour.

The image was flipped in the horizontal on the first edit for some reason, north is now to the left.:(

Looks loads better now Mike, a lot smoother but I dunno, maybe another couple of hours worth? If I had that on my screen I'd be happy enough but I would have that nagging feeling that a little more time might reap a bit more out of it. Maybe it's just me, I usually have that nagging feeling when I'm processing!

I've got one of these cooking as well I've blown the core on mine

Yours looks much better than mine and as the others have said looks much better for the added data

Good luck with the colour

I can see this being a long term project(another one) for the both of us
