Yes, I just saw the news item also. Fantastic! Good for them and good job by them.

Maybe after guidence from Sark Privy Council and some effort, Solihull can be designated as the World's first 'Dark Sky Metropolitan Borough'......closely followed by 'Birmingham, the World's first Dark Sky City'.

If the National Grid reversed the polarity for Birmingham, would the phase shift cancel out the light from London?

They could try supplying 275,000V direct to the street lighting circuits.

Phase shifts wouldn't work because the grid is 3 phase anyway (120 degrees out of step with each other).

I thought phase-shifting only happened on Star trek :) What the heck is a 'phase' ? - no don't tell me, I never did physics at school, I only understand biology & chemistry.
