Google sky map

Hi all,

Just thought I'd let any novice like me aware of the google sky map

app for android mobile phones.

Like I said, being a novice I am still learning where various star, nebula, constallation etc are. The use of the above certainly helped me to locate what I was looking for, it's like have a mini stallerium

in my hand and show things nicely whichever way I point my phone.

I'm fairly new as well and it's pretty handy for the 'what the hell is that?!' moments I have when I'm nowhere near my computer, books and whatnot. Nice wee thing to help you learn your way about.

i also found stelarium for my ipod touch/iphone havent used it yet tho (im having trouble with itunes store )

I downloaded it back in the summer and loved the idea that i could put names to those elusive dots above us - a great free app which even has a thoughtful night mode to protect you from the overbright phone glare!

Thats a great option, really glad thats on there!

I find its a bit slow times updating where the phone is located and where its pointing (could be my phone though!)

The app and stellarium rekindled my passion for astronomy again so much so I found this great forum and bought myself a scope (even managed first light the day it was delivered!
