MONKEY NEBULA

CELESCOPE

Recommended Posts

Hey Rog, i've never even heard of the Monkey Nebula let alone seen it. What constellation does it reside in? And just how faint is it?

It's a cracking image btw. The stars are nice pin points across the field. I always thought using Fastar would give elongated stars towards the edge. Or is that on larger chipped cameras such as SBIG and expensive Starlight cams?

Its at the tip of Orions club Russ, a fairly hard one to get as well , you are rightwith slightly elongated stars with the fast start ,this normally occurs at the top left , when this happens , i normally cut that section out , if not a bit of work in PS does the job,

Cheers

Another superb image from Roger!

Must admit - I can't see the 'Monkey'

Correction - just spotted it. The bright star in the upper centre is the top of his nose, the dark region at the bottom is his open mouth, his ear is the is the gas surrounding the cluster of 3 stars at the RH edge, and the two patches of gas either side and above the central cluster make up his eyes.

Am I right?
