Transition of Venus 2004

I knew I had this somewhere, taken with a very cheap digital camera, a photo of my projection through binoculars, onto white paper, of the transition of Venus in 2004.

Observed from southern Malta.

It was indeed great to see, and it was also great to show it to the rest of the crew, who had never even considered such a thing.

Looks pretty much like the view i had here in the States at sunrise. It was totally overcast but thankfully there was a break in the cloudcover which allowed me a whole 10 minutes to observe and image the historic event.

Pretty cool that you were able to show it to everyone.

You mentioned a crew, are you in the military?

That brings back good memories

It was a lovely morning here so I set my old 60mm refractor up and projected the suns image to observe the transit. It co-incided with my kids and their friends setting off for school so I was able to give them all a peek at the event - perhaps one or two of them will remember it when they are doing their physics revision .

Are the rigs lit up to the max every night?

If not, i imagine you can get some pretty dark skies.

They are lit up quite brightly, although I can usually find a nice dark spot from which to gaze skyward.
