New Atlas

Awaiting the pocket sky atlas in the post, I am told its good, spiral bound etc. And 975 galaxies so I should be able to increase from my 180 so far!

Now I would like a better red light to view it...What is the best way to keep a light on an atlas outside and I find my two hands are just not enough...

OK and where can I buy one with a red light or do you do the only use one battery so it only glows trick?

you can buy head torches with red and white led's which are dimmable and switchable between the two which i have, but make sure the light is set to minimal before turning on,

OK found one at argos with the red led option so when I am next there..

If it's too bright, place layer after layer of white 'sports tape' on it.. the tape also acts as a diffuser, creating a nice even glow.

Hi Mark' i use a small light which i clip on to laptop or clip the light on any thing else.I put some red nail vanish on the touch which works fine.Mark

The Argos one is fine, doesn't need any further filtering, and costs about a fiver. One of the best astro bargains around!

I'd go with a head torch - before I managed to get one I tapped my red torch (it is fairly light) onto the side of a baseball cap - had to use electrical tape to keep it on though. I looked ridiculous but it worked. Also tried booklamps in the past, not quite sturdy enough - kept calling off
