SGL 2023 Challenge 5 - Noctilucent Cloud

Recommended Posts

Many apologies for the late posting of this challenge, I have been out of the country for several weeks.

Once again we are about to come into noctilucent cloud season.  For those of you who aren't familiar with these beautiful but elusive clouds you can learn more here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noctilucent_cloud

We ran this challenge last year and were treated to some superb images and animations

Entries can be still images or animations.

Start date 19th May 2023

End date 31st July 2023

As previously the winner and runners up will receive an SGL challenge mug showing their image along with a virtual medal-of-honour for their SGL signature.

Please post entries directly into this thread

To keep the thread manageable for the judges please do not post comments about entries, emoji reactions are welcome of course.

My first time seeing...and photographing....noctilucent clouds !

Taken on 21st June at 01:30 from the back garden, looking north towards the Malverns (not visible) whilst the scope was aiming up at M57 I believe.

Single shot Canon 77D + EFS 10-18 at 10mm, f/4.5, ISO-200, 20s exposure.

Minor crop, no processing.

Delicate white Noctilucent Clouds over Black Nab and the wreck of the trawler Admiral von Tromp, Saltwick Bay, N. Yorkshire.  About 23.10 on 5th July.  Canon R8, Sigma 24mm. ISO800, f5.6, 1s.  LR and PS.

Played hide and seek with the clouds.  A very tidal location.  Fantastic couple of hours!!  Cheers, Paul.
