NEW Sky-Watcher AZ-Go2 WiFi Telescopes

Recommended Posts

Strictly speaking it is the AZ-Go2 WiFi Go-To Alt-Azimuth Mount that is new 🙂

Sky-Watcher AZ-Go2 WiFi telescopes

The AZ-Go2 mount has integrated WiFi (creates it's own WiFi network) so can be controlled wirelessly using your Smartphone or Tablet, via the free SynScan App for iOS or Android.

Stock should start arriving at our warehouse early next week.

Must admit I’m a bit perplexed by this. Why would anyone buy this over the AZ-GTI?

Slightly cheaper than AZ GTI versions if you dont want to do any imaging. At least until SW increase their prices.

These new AZ Go2 telescopes are essentially replacements for Sky-Watcher's earlier AZ-GOTO models (appears to be same but with integrated Wifi, no need for dongle, and no handset).

As far as we know, the smaller AZ-GTi mount is is not due an update so will continue unaffected.

Can you tell me what the payload capacity of the mount is... also, do they not sell the mount separately?

Sky-Watcher don't provide max payload spec'.

The AZ-Go2 is based on an earlier SupaTrak mount. That too was available with a number of telescope OTAs, the heaviest being the Skymax-127.

The Skymax-127 weighs 3.2 kg / 7 lb so the AZ-Go2 max payload will likely be around 3.5 kg / 7.7 lb.

Currently Sky-Watcher do not enable the mount to be purchased separately.

I used to have the old supatrak az-gt mount and it quite happily handled on many occasions my APM-LZOS 105/650 which is around or a bit over 7kg with diagonal & eyepiece (I’ve just weighed it).

The new version 2 mount I’d be willing to bet is the same structurally with improved gubbins, so actual usable payload will be at least 7kg.

I'm quite tempted with the ST102 on this mount - if the mount has enough payload capacity to take the Heritage 150p flextube OTA comfortably that could fulfil a couple of my wishlist items in one...
