I've just received my 8" edge. The scope itself is fine. But the thumb screws on the rear for the star diagonal/eyepiece/camera are absolute junk. Is there an upgrade?

The “junk” is standard equipment with most scopes. You just need a new Visual Back. FLO or another dealer will have them.

The Bbader visual backs are particularily good. the standard one use a compression band with two locking screws and the Click-Lock uses a rotating lock but more expensive.

+2 for the Baader click-lock. I replaced the standard Celestron visual back very quickly - I couldn't get it to hold anything.

No problem with an SCT. 🙂

No, it just screws on to the SCT and everything works fine - gives you the option of using 2" accessories if you want as well.
