Some Doubles In Ophiuchus (Or – Out At Last!)

10.45pm, Weds. – mild, clear – 8SE on GoTo in action, aligning on Arcturus and Altair.

 61 Oph – triple, visual double, 21 arcsec, matched 6^th mag pair, easily split at x48, almost “eyes” (side by side), sparse field.

70 Oph – 5.9 arcsec, 4^th and 6^th mags, almost split at x48, clear at x68, fainter companion at 4 o’clock, sparse field.

Σ2276 – triple, visual double, 7.0 arcsec, matched 7^th mag pair, just split at x48, “eyes” again, very pleasing.

Σ2186 – 3.0 arcsec, matched 8^th mag pair, just split at x102 – two equal faint specks, again almost a pair of eyes.

I tried a couple more around the 1.0 arcsec separation, but the seeing prevented decent viewing.  Then clouds arrived.  Still, a nice 75 minute session – and good to be out again after a few weeks’ absence.

Nice report Doug. Ophiuchus sure does have some fine doubles. Glad you got a decent session in after waiting for weeks.

Nice one Doug I was in bed early last night I've had a bad few days not sleeping because of pain I don't even know if it was clear here or not.

Hope things improve for you, Paul.  I was wide awake after the footie, so when I saw a clear sky, I shot out to take advantage, despite the lack of decent darkness!  First session in a few weeks.
