What to put on an eq6r pro

Recommended Posts

So my eq6r pro is ordered and hopefully on the way some time this year 😂

Lot's of time to think about what to put on it.

I was thinking of the esprit 80ed.

Anything else in that kind of price range i should be considering?

I will be using it for Astrophotography of DSOs, and would need to conect it to my Canon 6d.

Cheers Rob

I think that the Skywatcher reducer for the Esprit scopes covers up to APS-C sensor size?

The maximum size scopes I would load on this mount would be a C11 (for planetary) or RASA11 (for DSO).

A Skymax 180 or a CC8 should be easily handled by this mount.

The esprit has a 33mm imaging circle.. not sure what the 6d sensor size is..

Fantastic scope..I use one myself

6D is full frame 36mm x 24mm. I've only had 2 scopes that pair well with mine. Altair 70EDQR (same as Star 71 etc) and my recently purchased Redcat 51. Petzval designs that quote a full frame imaging circle.

I think you'd need an Esprit 120 or 150 to cover a full frame chip.

100mm has a 40mm imaging circle

120 has a 44mm

Yes and the sensor diagonal is 43mm so the 120 just about covers it. The 80 won't. Then there's the consideration of correction at the edges. Even the quads I've used don't fully correct for round stars but I think you need to be pragmatic with expectations with full frame sensors, especially at the budget end of the hobby most of us work with.

Hi everyone

Thanks for the advice.

I think i could get away with the Esprit 100. I've seen some great photos using the combination of the esprit 100 and 6d

I have also been suggested the WO gt81 iv.

But I've heard fantastic things about the esprit range, great glass and focuser.

So just need to save a bit longer and up my budget 😃

Cheers Rob
