I am just starting back up with astronomy and i have AZ-EQ6PRO.  How do i connect the mount to the regulated power supply block. The power cable from the mount need to connect  in to a cigar lighter socket which is not provided for on the power unit. Can someone point me to an adapter with a cigar socket that connects to the power supply block, and how is this adapter connected to the power supply block.

A simple question i am sure.I hope someone can help

thanks

Philip

thx for reply . I do have the mount power cable. The problem is attaching it to the power supply, as the power supply hasnt a cigar socket . All that is on the PSU is a red+ and black-. There are no sockets .

I was needing to know  what would be required to plug my mount power cable in to the PSU when there are no cigar sockets available

thx

Philip

I’d get a second power lead, and cut the non-telescope end off, and attach the relevant connector(s) for the power unit you are using. Just get polarity correct else it will all blow up.

Or just get something like this (I think I found a 10A version for less) and then maybe even one of the adapters that you linked to too. It's what I use and power everything....

You may be able to get a simple converter like this:
https://www.ebay.ie/itm/164839455151?hash=item26613279af:g:5f8AAOSw3Otga3sX

You might even be able to get one with a connector on the PSU end that matches the PSU output. As @jambouk says, be very careful with polarity as many of us have blown SW mount mother boards in the past.... 😞

Unless you now that your PSU is high quality, you should seriously consider something like this:
https://www.firstlightoptics.com/batteries-powerpacks/nevada-psw-30-25-30a-switch-mode-power-supply.html

There's also a 10A version if I recall... problem is that many power supplies at ~5A or so can't sustain the 13.8V needed for a mount like that. If the voltage drops to 12V or lower, you will have infuriating, intermittent failures. The mount handset will tell you what the input voltage is, and also if you have any other gear like dew heaters, cameras etc. connected the voltage can drop quite quickly.

would this do  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0851K7GDN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1   and if i cut the cable and attach one of the wires to the + and the other wire to the - on the PSU.

thx

Philip

Sorry, no offence, but if you asking questions like this, i don’t think you should be thinking about cutting plugs from cables and reattach-going to others.

Many people have destroyed expensive mount circuitry by mis-wiring.

In the late ‘70s I was employed as an avionics navigation system engineer; one of the guys replacing a 12kV PSU (part of a revamped maintenance/repair schedule) and was distracted and missed that the connectors on the new one where reversed.image.png.807bfad19f4ef289eca84f8f7ae487be.png

Expensive, fortunately a test unit in the training centre and not in the field.

Buy something ready made for the job. c£30-35 is pennies against £400+ for repairs image.png.1659c9bccc945390189f2426f20ea9a9.png
