How do you attach a webcam to a finder (Skywatcher 9X50) ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just thought this would be really convenient. I dont have to get outside each time I want to find and centre something (I do this a lot). But i am confounded what kind of adapter to use. The webcam to 1.25" adapter is a bit too large. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Vincent.

Hi Vincent,

I think your best bet will be to put the lens back onto the webcam and connect them together afocally. This will allow you to see the full field of view that you would see looking through the finder in the normal way.

The webcam is equivalent to a 5mm eyepiece so if you use it directly on the finder, the field of view will be rather limited.

The only thing you might be able to do is to unscrew the original diagonal and replace it with a cheap 1.25" star diagonal (a cheap one should have the smaller thread that would fit the finder). The only problem I can see with this is if you couldn't get enough infocus.

Maybe someone could lend you one to try it out.

John
