Had a delightful grabbed-and-gone viewing session from our front garden this afternoon, as the sun moved out from behind the trees and houses opposite.

Wow, that sunspot group is seriously impressive!  Was using my wee Tak, FS-60C, with a Lunt wedge, and tried a small selection of eyepieces, finishing with a Morpheus 6.5 at 54x.  Fab view via a solar continuum filter.  Delightful detail.  Sunshine permitting, I’ll keep watching over next few days.

Cheers all, Simon

Very well worth it, I reckon!  Looking at your kit list, there are several fracs there, across which you could share a Herschel Wedge.  Cheers, Simon

I think these sunspots look more impressive in WL than HA, visually and in images.

Dave

I tend to mostly use a WL setup when decent sized sunspots are visible but use Ha when nothing is visible in WL as there is always something to see in Ha.

A Herschel Wedge and continuum filter are well worth the investment @Davey-T.........not that I enjoy spending other people's hard earned cash.

Just picked up on this group today, probably the best I've seen for a few years, a lot of detail visible in Ha.  There's also a much smaller spot closer to the centre of the disc and what looks like a vertical filament further across (difficult to describe).  Had a nice hour with it in the warm November sunshine before the clouds rolled in.
