Happy 25th birthday to my Celestron GP-C8

Recommended Posts

Just realised my trusty old Celestron C8 and the venerable Vixen Great Polaris mount turned 25 five days ago. I have upgraded some bits, but the core is still the same old system that has shown me some 500 galaxies, and many planets, moons, comets, nebulae, gobsmacking views of globular clusters, my first solar eclipse in 1999, transits of Venus and Mercury and several lunar eclipses. Wonderful instrument

Happy birthday GP-C8! I fine combination of scope and mount. My 21 year old 'G8' is still going strong, although the original mount (a non-goto celestron CG5 on an aluminium tripod) is now rarely used and the OTA sits on a variety sturdier mounts and tripods. The mirror is as pristine and dust free as the day I bought it thanks to the enclosed tube. Still the best scope in my arsenal for globulars, galaxies and (probably) planets .
