Orion Off-axis reflector?

I came across this whilst browsing and thought i'de ask if anyone has any experience with off-axis reflectors? Didn't even know they made them mass-produced!

It is a very small aperture (3.6") for the money.

A decent refractor would be better.

I agree wholeheartidly, but I thought that it was an interesting idea. If they can up-scale and get the price right we can all have 10" reflectors with high contrast and no central obstruction

I would guess because they havn't made many of them. You dont get economies of scale until you start to produce 1000's of units.

It takes a bigger mirror blank to end up with with a OA reflector mirror.

The rationale behind them is that they give views comparable to apos, so £600 for a 3.5" apo-like scope is reasonable.

Yes, but the technology/manufacturing costs cannot be that high?

I am reasonably confident that I could commission a one-off for that price.
