How to attach scope to mount

Recommended Posts

I have found an old telescope of mine in my parents loft, however the mount is missing.

What do I need to attach this to my current mount? (Celestron AVX) links to FLO would be great, I currently have some other things in my basket.

You need a pair of tube rings to fit the tube and a dovetail bar to fit in the mount jaws.

Not sure about the tube ring diameter you need - maybe 101mm ? - ask FLO, they will know.

I'm assuming your AVX clamp will fit the Vixen / Skywatcher dovetail bar rather than the wider Losmandy type.

2 tube rings and a dovetail should do it, you need to know the outside diameter of the tube, where its wearing its label. Someone more familiar with the scope may know its OD

John beat me to it :)

With a 40-60 day wait time for the tube rings I think I might just put that telescope back in the loft for a few more months 😂

You could go 'cheapskate' and get two Jubilee hose rings and dovetail bar...

I added some self-adhesive felt; (you could also use neoprene, rubber, cork, etc.), to the inside of the rings to prevent them scratching the OTA. The only reason I have used them, was that I cannot find any tube rings for the ETX105 available, as the external diameter is 124mm.
