WilliamAstro
Yesterday received a Canon EOS Rebel XTI and a CF Card and the first day I got I broke (dented) the CF card reader pins, later on the camera stopped working after attempting to recharge the batteries, I was able to turn on the camera but the lcd screen won't display and won't take photos and when I turn it off the green light was still on... Please help me get this into repair!
sploo
Are any of the CF pins inside the camera shorting to one another? It's feasible that might prevent the camera starting (either electrically, or because the firmware believes there's a card and is then locking up trying to read from it). Have you tried leaving the camera for a while with no batteries (including removing the CR2016 coin cell) and then reinserting the batteries? E.g. follow the steps at https://martybugs.net/blog/blog.cgi/gear/bodies/Canon-350D-Lockup.html It is possible to fix bent CF pins with tweezers or a fine screwdriver, but you have to be really careful not to snap them. A dodgy connection to the lens can cause issues, but it looks as though you don't have one connected at the moment.

sploo
Yikes. That's a car wreck. Still might be possible to move them back carefully though, then very gently insert a card to line them back up.
tooth_dr
I bought a canon DSLR with two puns bent. It was a two minute job when a dental instrument. Your camera is very fixable but don’t bend them too many times or they might break off.
Davey-T
Canon do affixed price repair service but probably not financially viable, may be easier to fix if you take it apart, instructions by Gary Honis on YT. Dave
happy-kat
Once you have mended those pins consider getting a cf to SD card adaptor to use instead (you'll have to see if can get one that is neat was I'm not sure if your battery door would close)
Paul2019
Yikes! Good luck with fixing it, I love my 450d even if it is old!
michael8554
A CF to SD adapter won't work if the CF pins are broken or misaligned. If the CF pins are fixed he can use a CF card, but to save a repeat, he could leave an adapter permenantly installed and only eject the SD card. Card goes in the side of the camera, not in the battery compartment. Without a card you can still save images to a PC as they are taken, once you've unshorted the pins.
