Canon 3ti modified

I have a canon 3ti that I have modified. I am new to using a moded camera but cannot seem to find any stars on the display screen, my settings are WB set to daylight and the iso varies. Currently not connected to a scope so just using a tripod for now but all I get is a blank screen and it does not matter what lense I have on it. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Hi

The camera does the screen work in the day time as you would expect?

I've found only really bright stars like Rigel would show on the camera screen so I connect my T3 to an Android phone and use DSLR Controller makes detection and focus so much easier.

Yes it works as expected during the day.

I don't know what gear you have but I also use a red dot finder that fits in the flash hot shoe, that makes aiming easier. If it works in the daytime then it might be star brightness, aim, sometimes turning the ISO right up just to help show a star.

Oh and focus if that's off no stars will show.

I use the same camera model- also modded. By setting the iso to 6400 I can just about get a view of the very brightest stars in a 135 f4 lens- anything wider and no chance. Like @happy-kat I use an rdf in the hot shoe and set the focus position in daylight. It's a bit of a faf but I've gotten used to it and it's a workable approach
