red and green specs

when I take a picture of anything remotely dark,  especially the sky I get red and green specs, what are they and how can I stop this, thanks

As I found out not too long ago, sounds like hot pixels on the sensor.

Can you post an example and what kit you're using?

Canon 300d but not through a scope. This literally just sitting on a tripod and pointed up at anything and nothing in particular. I am just getting to grips with a dslr so wanted to experiment with it before I point it at anything through my 8se

if they are hot pixels, which they sound like, a dark calibration file would sort them out.

I haven't got that far into my astrophotography journey just yet but thankyou I'll make a mental note. If astrophotography is a 1000 page booklet then I am still running my finger along the spine

Good analogy but luckily Making Every Photon Count is not nearly that long and a must read if you’re looking to get into AP. 

Superb book and imo worth reading even if you’re only thinking of dabbling in the art
