AdeKing
Very true, I only started solar observing last year, so in truth couldn't have picked a worse time to start but I am safe in the knowledge that things can only get better. Peter Drew
I've been watching a small active area on the Sun this afternoon. Quite a way in from the edge as shown on GONG. Tuning through the range of the Ha etalon produces markedly different appearances. On band it appears to be a dark area surrounded by a bright halo, tuning off band makes it morph into a group of black "tadpoles", finally before completely disappearing off band it looks like a group of small sunspots arranged in a similar appearance to the Orion Trapezium but in negative. ? AdeKing
I've been watching this area evolve all afternoon as well. I didn't play around with the etalon, but did get my WL setup out at about 17:15 and found a group of small sunspots in the same place as the bright area in Ha.
