Helical focuser, are they any good?

Hi

Saw one of these @£75 are they any good, cant afford a dual crayford at moment, but fed up with lx90 stock focuser already so is this a good buy?

Here's a CN thread on a similar AliExpress 2" to 1.25" helical focuser.  The OP seemed pleased with it.

Can't vouch for the Chinese one, but I use the Borg helical focuser on all my spectroscopes.....no issues, no drama.

I would say yes, a good quality one is very good, specially for a SCT as a secondary focus system.   ?

I was using a Borg/Hutech helical until I broke it.

 

It was absolutely fine for visual use, but I felt that it struggled with a heavy camera on it. By heavy, I mean 2Kg.  It was absolutely fine with an Atik 16HR on it.

(I broke it by applying too much pressure when I didn't realise that it was at the end of its travel.)
