Pembrokeshire Road Trip: Day 2 – Broadhaven Beach and Church Rock

Recommended Posts

Day 2 – after waking after a stunning first night, on checking the forecast we found we were in for another clear night.
Our next target location was the beach at Broadhaven, the low tide also meant that we could shoot from the shore line and include Church Rock and hopefully get the track of Mars in the water…

Trekking down from the car park loaded with all the kit and the joy of wearing wellies - essential when heading anywhere near water.

The beach was looking stunning, even to the naked eye the Miky Way was a solid ribbon across the sky. This was the first set of shots...

This is a combination of 9 shots, Mars was doing wonderful things in the gap in the rocks, the core of the Milky Way great as was the track from Jupiter.
Tamron 15-30 f2.8 at f2.8, 15mm, 30", ISO 3,200

A single vertical shot at 15mm

This is a pair of stitched shots, it was good to get such a clear view of a pair of US NOSS (Naval Ocean Surveillance System) satellites photoboming the image

Mars, Milky Way and Air Glow on wet sand - what can I say, this just looked amazing... a vertical 2 shot pano 15mm, f2.9, ISO 5,000

Leave only Footsteps - I could have cloned them out, but I liked them

A final beach shot on the way back to the car park...

After climbing through the sand dunes to the car, did I say I totally hate wearing boots especially in loose sand!!! We decided to try a quick trip to Freshwater West, to try to get the Milky Way as it cleared the Headland.
Freshwater West is an amazing surf beach and has been used in a lot of movies including Robin Hood and possibly more famously as the location of Shell Cottage in  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows :)
Cloud has started to appear on the horizon, so i did a couple of shots over the rebuilt Seaweed Hut (where they used to dry seaweed to make Laverbread).

A single shot included a bit of the ISS passing - 15mm, 25", f2.8, ISO 5,000

A final vertical shot, I rather like the cloud in this...

End of shoot 2, home to bed for 4:30 - starting to feel tired...

Dave

I was so chuffed to get the combination of tide and sky - a wonderful beach, but a total pain to negotiate in wellies, footwear of the devil!!!!!
