Neptune with adaptive optics

I came across an interesting article here:

The startling difference in the comparison image was what caught my eye, very impressive.

As an aside is there a way to incorporate adaptive optics into a guiding system? I've never come across it at an amateur level.

Adaptive optics..........very interesting, but only available/used by professional astronomers.

Pipe dream for us back garden observers.
