Low frame rates with a ZWO ASI120mc

Recommended Posts

Hi can anyone help, I`ve been using an ASI120 mc camera and Sharpcap. When doing an imaging run the frame rate starts at 1-2 frames a second then jumps to 18-20 frames a second then goes up to 30-40 frames a second!!!!! Then dives down to 1-5 frames a second, this happens on all solar system objects. As I think that all frame rates should be fairly level. I`ve tried using different capture areas, and have frame rate on max, with the same results.Des

I've got several thoughts.

1. software settings that others have already said above.

2. are you running the camera direct from the lap/desktop, or through a HUB?

3. If HUB, is it powered?

4. Do you have any other USB devices plugged in?

5. is everything between the camera and computer USB 3, including the USB Port in the computer?

The answers to these questions may help to identify a problem.

Incidentially, I run my ASI290MM through a Startech USB 3 hub, which also connects to my Starlight Express and my Zwo Filter wheel.

A lot could be with the Laptop you are using. I use a gaming lappie which is

plugged into the mains. My ZWO 185 camera  was running @ 185 fps on Jupiter

last night. Saturn was down to 20fps . This was @ 400x400.
