Bubble level

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

How do you place the bubble level on you telescope pier or tripod? Vertically like the picture below or you lay it flat on the surface( horizontally)? If we don't level the telescope, would it affect the tracking of the telescope? Thanks.

Hi,

Although it is good to get the tripod level, with an EQ mount it actually doesn't matter too much so long as polar alignment is correctly adjusted. I would suggest you place it horizontally, but don't worry too much about the levelling! :)

If I were to use this type of spirit level, I would lay it flat so you can check level in more than just one axis. I personally prefer the bull's eye type as it will level in a plane rather than just the direction of the tubes of a basic spirit level. My two cents.
